Solidarity Event for Frontline Women Relief Workers in India
Saturday July 10th at 5pm EST on Zoom
(link will be posted a few days prior)

Gandhian organizations in Canada with the generous contribution of people, have raised support for women frontline workers in India for immediate medical relief. Now the situation of food shortages has become dire as a result of lockdown; and without work many daily wage earners do not have enough to eat. Immediate food relief especially for women and children has become the priority.
In meeting this challenge, Gandhian organization, IGINP Canada in tandem with Jai Jagat International and Ekta Parishad in India, is sponsoring a solidarity event on zoom on Saturday, July 10th. Hosted by well-known Bollywood singer and radio jockey, Geet Sagar, this cultural and music event brings together Canadian artists such as Jim Cuddy and his sons, Devin and Sam, along with Indian musical and dance performers, Megha Dalton, Siddarth Singh, Niyathi, the Nad Roop artists and Dharma in Motion.

Large parts of India are facing massive crises dealing with an unparalleled surge of Covid-19 infections, making it difficult for women and families to access health care, oxygen, and vaccines. A large number of people are struggling with basic needs – food, ambulance and transportation, and medicine.

Covid has begun to spread to small towns and villages in this second wave, and health services are often scarce or overwhelmed with a large number of cases. So many are affected and they need immediate relief.

We are collaborating with the International Gandhian Institute for Nonviolence and Peace Canada  (IGINP Canada), in association with Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashram  (MGSA) and the Women’s Wing of Ekta Parishad, to provide immediate relief response to migrant, landless and marginalized communities in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh Bihar, Jarkhand, and Orissa. Together we are supporting MGSA in their effort in arranging alternative make-shift healthcare and community facilities for those severely affected by the overflooded hospitals.

"The situation is simply dire. Women Wing is looking for ways to get people food and safety. In every crisis, women and children are most affected. People have lost faith in health systems. We also need to prioritise women to get vaccinated.” - Shradhya Kashyap, Shobha Gautum, and Kasturi Patel as the Leaders of the Women’s Wing and National Executive of Ekta Parishad. Shradhya Kashyap is also a Board Member of Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashram (MGSA).
