Everyone enjoys being praised and appreciated. It boosts one’s self-esteem and makes us feel good. And research demonstrates that praising others makes us feel happier. Being appreciative and praising others enhances our own sense of well-being. Appreciation promotes positive feelings, more satisfying relationships and increased ability to cope with stress. Expressing appreciation to others helps build and maintain human connections.

Give sincere praise to the people you encounter today for their personal qualities, achievements or helpful service. Telling someone what you appreciate about them is an important part of nonviolent communication.
