Day 29 ~ February 28 ~ Forgiveness
Quotes
“The result of forgiveness is the stopping of the recycling of anger within ourselves and in the world. Peace will come to the world when each of us takes the responsibility of forgiving everyone, including ourselves, completely.” ~ Gerald Jampolsky “When you forgive, you in no way change the past – but you sure do change the future.” ~ Bernard Meltzer |
Reflection
When we forgive, we do not condone hurtful behavior. When we realize that there is something within us that is more important than this hurtful experience, we are free to let go of the past and move on with our lives. In doing so, we open our hearts to the humanity of those we forgive. As we forgive others, we are teaching the mind to respond with forgiveness everywhere, even to the misdeeds and mistakes of our own past. |
Affirmation
Refusing to forgive keeps us stuck in the moment of the “assault.” Today I forgive, knowing it is time to move on with my life. “The practice of forgiveness is our most important contribution to the healing of the world.” ~ Marianne Williamson |
Daily Action
Be willing to let go of the past, and forgive those who have hurt you, and towards whom you feel anger. Forgive yourself too. Today, write a letter of forgiveness to someone (you do not have to mail it unless you want to). Also, make amends to someone you have hurt. |
Action for Teens
Gandhi said, “If we practice an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, soon the whole world will be blind and toothless.” When you release a hurt, you can lighten your burdens. Think of someone who has wronged you. You don’t have to forgive the action, forgive the person. Share the story with a friend. Share forgiveness. Action for Children If someone has done or said something that hurt you, let them know that you forgive and are not angry. |
Quotes
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi "Forgiveness and reconciliation are not just ethereal, spiritual, otherworldly activities. . . . They are real politik, because in a very real sense, without forgiveness, there is no future." ~ Desmond Tutu "Today is a good day for forgiveness. Mind you, forgiveness is not for everyone. It is only for those who would like to experience peace, love, joy, bliss, healing, freedom, total salvation and things like that." ~ Robert Holden |
