Day 14 ~ February 13 ~ Humility
Quotes
“I claim to be a simple individual liable to err like any other fellow mortal. I own, however, that I have humility enough to confess my errors and to retrace my steps.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi “We must speak with all the humility that is appropriate to our limited vision, but we must speak.” ~ Martin Luther King Jr. |
Reflection
Making mistakes is part of learning and growing. Paradoxically, the only way we can begin to learn from our mistakes is to stop running from them and to face them with fortitude and humility. In this sense, every difficult situation is a precious opportunity for learning. When we humbly acknowledge our mistakes and reflect on what we have learned, it frees us from the need to be defensive. Being free from defending our position creates an opportunity for nonviolence. |
Affirmation
Over time we come to realize that the only thing that doesn’t change is the fact that everything is going to change. Today I prepare for the certainty of uncertainty with humility, an open heart, and beginner’s mind. |
Daily Action
Making mistakes is a part of learning and growing. Today, remember one mistake you made and think about what you learned from it. |
Action for Teens
Making mistakes is a part of our day-to-day lives. Why don’t we change our views on humility and start focusing on learning from our mistakes instead of dwelling on them? Today think of a past mistake and take the time to truly think about what you learned from it and why. Action for Children Tell someone you trust about a mistake you made, what you learned from it and how you now do things differently. |
Quotes
“Humility is the only true wisdom by which we prepare our minds for all the possible changes of life.” ~ George Arliss "People with humility don't think less of themselves, they just think of themselves less." ~ Ken Blanchard |
