In August 2026, the Mahatma Gandhi Canadian Foundation was one of four peace focused organizations from around the globe that co-sponsored the Peace 2026 stream of workshops at the World Social Forum in Cotonou, Benin.
The other three organizations were Ekta Parishad (India), Rethinking African Security (based in several West African countries), and Home for Humanity (based in the UK). We collectively organized and facilitated 6 workshops that addressed various aspects of peace including cultural traditions of peace, women and peace, youth and peace, education for peace, and nonviolent economy. |
Our Foundation was represented by three delegates from Edmonton, Naomi Jacko, a young Indigenous leader, Natasha Sarkar, a teacher and social justice activist, and Reva Joshee, co-chair of our Foundation. They met with people from around the world and participated in many conversations on creating peace and social justice.
