WHAT is the Season for Nonviolence?
It is an annual campaign focused on fostering peace and nonviolence, inspired by the teachings and philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. It was initiated by Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, in 1998.
WHEN is the Season for Nonviolence?
The Season marks the 64 days between the memorial anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on January 30 and that of Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4.
WHERE is the Season for Nonviolence practiced?
Since its inception, the Season has been embraced by over 900 cities in 67 countries. It can be practiced by anyone, anywhere; by individuals and organizations alike.
WHO can participate in the Season for Nonviolence?
It is open to everybody. There is no membership or registration required, just a desire to deepen a personal commitment to peace and to contribute to the creation of a culture of peace. The Season is celebrated by individuals, families, schools, faith groups, work groups and larger communities.
WHY participate in the Season for Nonviolence?
Each of us, in our own way, can move the world in the direction of peace through our daily nonviolent choices and actions. Even small steps can promote peace within ourselves, in our interactions with others, within the community and world.
HOW can I participate in the Season for Nonviolence?
Each of the 64 days of the Season is characterized by a value that, when practiced, contributes to the creation of a culture of peace. The Mahatma Gandhi Canadian Foundation for World Peace has created comprehensive website listings which take you through each day of the Season and provide daily reflections, aspirations, action ideas and inspirational quotes.
