On the eve of the anniversary of the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, Canada has been rocked by a senseless act of violence. Several members of the Muslim community in Québec City were shot in their mosque. Like Gandhiji they were attacked during prayers. This seems to magnify the tragedy. First and foremost we send our love and prayers to those who have been injured or have lost loved ones.
Gandhiji taught us that all religions are equally valuable as they are all potential paths to Truth. At this time we do not know the motive of the shooters but we do know of the increasing levels of intolerance towards our Muslim sisters and brothers throughout the West. We understand this intolerance as a type of violence. So on this very somber day we renew our call for an end to all violence and we pledge ourselves to work even harder to promote love for all humanity and other living beings. We call on all Canadians to join us in this effort.
